@wowaname i was terribly xenophobic as a young child. like literally scared of the korean exchange student. i mean i was scared of almost all the students but her moreso. and when i was three i remember giving a kindly black woman telling us stories the death glare, i was just irrationally angry with her.

@e @wowaname racism is just a socially constructed systemized form of xenophobia based on physical phenotype. there's truth to the saying that it's taught. xenophobia itself though is based in fear of the unfamiliar, which is quite natural. it should be discouraged in any decent society of course but also i think the lie that kids can't be bigots unless it's taught to them fits in with the general myth of innocence, and tabula rasa theory

@orekix @nerthos @wowaname i'm not needlessly verbose just needlessly grandiloquent. and i try to only use words that convey precise meaning, not words that are merely the same word on a higher linguistic register. i especially like using rarer and archaic native englishisms rather than latin or (shudders) greek but that's harder cause i reach for modern english words to fill the lexical gaps they leave.
