@libre_adam @moth @geopoliticks @tasso do you realize that argument of "they were savages and mao civilized them" is indistinguishable of that of the british in india. "imperialism is okay because we ended bride burning".

@libre_adam @moth @geopoliticks @tasso the british used the hindu caste system to make india easier to govern and to extract its resources. they benefited from the existence of a Sanskritized aristocratic priestly upper class with which they govern through. The chinese suffocate Tibetan religion because they feel Tibetan Buddhism and particularly the Dalai Llama to be a threat to their rule. they do this to extract tibet's resources. the difference is literally cosmetic, both are means to an imperialist end.

@libre_adam @moth @geopoliticks @tasso here's the thing, it doesn't matter who supports it, it links to an original chinese official document limiting the teaching of tibetan. you're just moving the goalposts.

@libre_adam @moth @geopoliticks @tasso so you can't verify my official source because you can't read chinese yet you can verify your source because you can speak tibetan. interesting.

@libre_adam @moth @geopoliticks @tasso that's the tibetan alphabet but I assumed it was being used phonetically to transcribe mandarin, as official documents generally do. regardless, "tibetan is spoken at this place" is hardly a refutation of "the CCP has barred teaching tibetan in places"

@libre_adam @moth @tasso @geopoliticks there is no unilateral ban on Tibetan in schools, but there are certainly requirements to learn Mandarin. because of this monasteries are one of the few places without bilingual instruction. add the flood of Han migrants and services that cater to them and you're promoting one language at the expense of another.

@libre_adam @moth @geopoliticks @tasso "can people of different races not cohabitate" this is literally bougie ass Mandarin and Cantonese speakers learning Tibetan in a private school that caters to foreigners. They're tourists.

@moth @libre_adam @geopoliticks @tasso i never said there was a unilateral ban but there are restrictions on the few places that provide monolingual education all while promoting the dominant tongue. they are accelerating, not decelerating, the demise of tibetan.

@libre_adam @moth @geopoliticks @tasso The Chinese Government:
-enforces bilingual education from an early age
-bans Tibetan instruction in monasteries
-floods Tibet with literally millions of Han as they did with Mongolia and Xianjing
-Has sent the Dalai Llama into exile

"why is it in their interest to prevent Tibetans from knowing Tibet"

national cohesion. your workers paradise is nationalist as fuck and expansionist to boot.
to them separate ethnic groups means possible separatism.
