@celeste female bedbugs have vestigial genitals and genital tracts but at some point male bedbugs (who are such rapists that nymphs produce a pheromone to prevent sex which is now being used as an insect repellent) just skipped those entirely. female bedbugs adapted to this somewhat but still have high morbidity and mortality from mating. it is probably disadvantageous for the health of the species as a whole and is an excellent example of sexual conflict
