@lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net germany makes some cool stuff still tho
@mia@movsw.0x0.st @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net sure but i think there's a reason German Engineering is still a phrase
@lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net my ebike is german its great
@meso@the.asbestos.cafe @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @arcana@fedi.layer02.net german ebikes are the worst, except for anything else (china might catch up soon though but not yet)
@anemone @lucy @meso @arcana@fedi.layer02.net german engineering isn’t inherently good. what really happened is that the economic situation of germany as it was decades ago (the whole “mittelstand” thing) allowed a lot of highly specialized small manufacturers to do a lot of international business
nowadays china eats our lunch in just about every way you could imagine
@mia@movsw.0x0.st @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net bosch ebike motors still eat anything china puts out for lunch. DJI might change that but they haven't yet
@meso@the.asbestos.cafe @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @arcana@fedi.layer02.net chinese ebike motors melt if you go up a hill for too long on a hot day
@mia@movsw.0x0.st @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net what shares their designs?
@meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz are there any good countries?
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe yeah obviously i want to see everyone's takes though
@anemone @lucy @meso @arcana@fedi.layer02.net they’re actually quite similar to cordless drills in that you have a brushless DC motor that is an otherwise unremarkable part and not specifically designed for this purpose, paired with control electronics (hall effect sensors, magnetostrictive torque sensing, battery monitoring, thermal safety etc.)
the most “engineered” thing about them is the gearbox i guess? they’re actually using helical gears in these, and moved from plastic to at least sintered metal gears in later revisions
i suppose what differentiates them from “china trash” is that the china trash was commissioned at very low cost, and consequentially a lot of corners had to be cut. “made in china” doesn’t inherently mean bad—you just get what the manufacturer was paid for
@mia@movsw.0x0.st @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net I agree made in china isn't bad, just that the chinese market is not currently putting out high quality ebike motors.
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe i want good transit and bike infrastructure and mild weather
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz warm but not scorching summers and no/minimal below freezing or snowy weather in the winter
@mia@movsw.0x0.st @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net i have plenty of high quality chinese stuff, even discounting all the "designed in X, made in china" stuff that accounts for 90% of goods
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz except for places where it's not offered at all I don't think I would have much trouble getting a prescription
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz most places accept overseas medical records
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz injections are extremely painful so I do not do them
@lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @arcana@fedi.layer02.net doubtful. I'm not a zoomer troon I went through the old harry benjamin standards of care
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz it's something I will research more in depth once I'm closer to moving but I doubt it will be a problem
@meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz I prefer to let experts handle medical issues
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz From what I've read if you have an official diagnosis and documented history it's not a problem. Someone who took the easy route and went to an "Informed Consent" clinic would probably have issues though
@lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @arcana@fedi.layer02.net @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe this is what it required in the US back when i took injections
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz I know people have transferred records records in germany and I had to do it already in Spain. I know you really want to win an argument here but I just don't think it will be that big of an issue and in the unlikely chance it is there are easy workarounds anyway
@lucy@netzsphaere.xyz @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @arcana@fedi.layer02.net @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz has nothing to do with the government. the human body is complex and there are tons of issues or edge cases that can pop up I would not want to start HRT without an endocrinologist
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz Sorry, I am just skeptical since even here people complain how "hard" it is but it's really not unless you live in a deep red state or are genuinely insane
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz Yes the UK seems like it's a shitshow for this kind of thing, one of many reasons it's not on my list
@arcana@fedi.layer02.net @meso@the.asbestos.cafe @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @lucy@netzsphaere.xyz it wasn't hard 10 years ago and it's easier than it should be now
