@georgia Do Macbooks really not have a way to not make the device not turn off when you close the lid?

@georgia There is one of these at my work. The guy that owns it doesn't even work there anymore.

@SuperDicq @georgia It is common for proprietary software to not allow something as basic as making closing the lid, blank the screen rather than suspending.

@SuperDicq @georgia Yes, we see join/quit spammers in IRC running iOS software, 2 lines every 20 minutes

@Suiseiseki @SuperDicq @georgia Examples from my favorite piece of proprietary software to rag on, Discord:

"custom notification sound"
https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/search?filter_by=community&query=custom+notification+sound&utf8=%E2%9C%93

and "hide mobile status (without going invisible)"
https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/search?filter_by=community&query=hide+mobile+status&utf8=%E2%9C%93

Both of which, despite having thousands of +1s, I guess they consider "won't implement"

for #1) probably because it's a conditioning psyop, you hear a sound in a video and compulsively check your notifs.

for #2) probably because the devs are creepy stalkers

@Vo @georgia That reminds me of when I was like 12 years old or something this dude that I knew on IRC was so fed up me spamming join and quit messages in his channel that he gave me SSH access to his server to run an Irssi client in a screen session so he wouldn’t see the join/quit messages any omre.

@Vo @Suiseiseki @georgia Watch them implement these features a few years from now as premium only features that you have to pay extra for.

@SuperDicq @georgia based. Everyone just told me to get a free shell, but I could only find ones that basically asked you to submit a resume first

Couldn't he just configure irssi to silence join/quits from you?

I know weechat has the ability to silence irrelevant join/parts.
