@lucy @georgia @mangeurdenuage in the same sense that a tiger is just a bigger housecat

@lain @georgia @lucy @mangeurdenuage > Larger varieties of A. fistulosum, such as the Japanese negi, resemble the leek
seems like it’s a “tanuki isn’t actually a raccoon” situation

@sun @cell @lain @georgia @lucy @mangeurdenuage A leek and spring onion is definitely not the same thing. They taste very different, I cook meals using these ingredients very often.

When Levan Polkka became a popular meme known as “leekspin” it was just a result of bad localization because Westerners that don’t know what a spring onion is interpreted it to be a leek.

I personally think Jamba (yes, that Jamba, the same company that popularized Crazy Frog) is mostly to blame for spreading this misinformation because they made a bunch of commercials for this broadcasted on TV referring to it as a leek.

It’s honestly no different than Brock in dubbed Pokemon calling refering to onigiri as “jelly donuts”.

@sun @lain @SuperDicq @georgia @lucy @cell @mangeurdenuage easy to get in NL .... can't imagine that it's too hard to get in the US

@UkeBLCatboy @georgia @lain @cell @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun The actual original traditional Finnish Levan Polkka song has nothing to do with leeks or spring onions.

All of this was simply because of of that one Flash animation featuring Orihime from Bleach. This Flash animation is actually older than Miku.

The association of leek/springonion with Miku actually came later when they made a cover of Levan Polkka sung by Miku.

@aetios @sun @lain @georgia @lucy @cell @mangeurdenuage I thought in the US like 20% of the population lived in these so called “food deserts” where little to no fresh produce is available, so I wouldn’t count on it.

@UkeBLCatboy @georgia @lain @cell @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun I’m pretty sure Miku’s Levan Pollkka cover is probably how a lot of us got into Vocaloid in the first place.

@UkeBLCatboy @georgia @lain @cell @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun Levan Pollka is much older than Popipo, but yes that one is very catchy and still very popular today as well.

@sun @bonifartius @lain @georgia @lucy @cell @mangeurdenuage Yeah, but there’s also “Spring Onion, Japan” (negi) which is just like a bigger of these so they look like leeks to the untrained eye.

@mer @UkeBLCatboy @lain @georgia @lucy @cell @mangeurdenuage @sun I dislike this version because it uses the Teto bop gif but this version is actually sung by Ron. This is not the Fukkireta that I remember.

Here is the original Teto version. https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm10722893

@mer @georgia @lain @cell @UkeBLCatboy @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun The classic robotic UTUA Teto, not the neo-Synth-V “AI” Teto.

@mer @georgia @lain @cell @UkeBLCatboy @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun Also did you know that OpenUTUA is free software, so you can make Teto songs using completely free software.

So you maybe want to consider Kasane Teto to be a free software waifu mascot like Libbie, Kiki and Xenia gnujihad

@mer @georgia @lain @cell @UkeBLCatboy @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun Well I mean unfortunately the Teto voicebank still uses a non-commercial license I guess.

@UkeBLCatboy @SuperDicq @georgia @lain @cell @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun I got back into vocaloid thanks to @lebronjames75 showing me appetite of a people pleaser, now I'm a big fan of Yi Xi

@UkeBLCatboy @georgia @lain @cell @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun @mer

barely known, barely used

What the hell do you mean? Teto is probably the second most well known vocalsynth character just below Miku.

Teto is so popular that she is in Project DIVA despite not even being a Vocaloid.

Please tell me you don’t completely live under a rock and have at least listened to Mesmerizer? https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm43708803

Like with over 100M views I’m pretty sure this is like the most popular Vocaloid song of 2024, and it’s Teto.

@UkeBLCatboy @georgia @lain @cell @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun @mer I can not comprehend how an active Vocaloid fan does not know Teto.

@UkeBLCatboy @georgia @lain @cell @lucy @mangeurdenuage @sun @mer If you like old Vocaloid you should at least know Triple Baka, right?

@UkeBLCatboy Others in the thread mentioned fukkireta and triple baka, but there is also a chance you might know Teto Territory, it's another classic Teto song
