@sun Finally, innovation in the keyboard front, but they left out F13-F24.

@sun would rather spend that much on vibrating ear jewellery tbh

@sun they should've tried to make it more ergonomic for that much

@sun print anime boobs over the keys and re-sell for 4x that amount

@lucy @sun my keyboard is very basic and only cost £120 ($150), it doesn’t even have coloured light up keys so I can easily see how there’s one going for $500. I’d personally forgo the lewd display however.

@sun The last three tilted key rows make it look like an old synth.

@lucy @sun mine had free shipping because I bought it in person, it was an emergency purchase because my previous keyboard broke when water leaked on it

@david @arcana @lucy @sun it hurt that mine was 100$ but the nkey rollover and the crispy feel is worth it.

@lucy @sun I don’t see why, if you use it for 2 years and counting as I have so far that’s only 65p a day, peanuts

@arcana @lucy @david @sun $150 USD for a membrane keyboard should be criminal. I spent around $60 on my Patriot Viper (yes it's a gaymer keyboard) 4 years ago and it was almost the cheapest mechanical keyboard I could buy that didn't have completely no-name chinesium switches. Apart from the double-typing it started to develop this year that fixes itself after few days I've never had any problems with it.

@lucy @arcana @sun i should build a keyboard for you 🥰

@arcana @sun it's certainly wasted when my 15€ keyboard does the job just as well with no drawbacks. except when you're neurotic about how it feels to press a button ig.

@maija @arcana @lucy @david @sun honestly I loved my cheap chinese one, it's input lag was too much and the ghosting was terrible.

@maija @lucy @sun @adachi I just like high quality. Literally everything I buy is top of the range or close to it.

Especially when it comes to something you use a lot, why cheap out?

@lucy @sun mine isn’t mechanical, it is wireless though and in the US layout which I prefer. Has a high build quality too

@maija @lucy @sun @adachi I use my keyboard to work and make money therefore it was a good purchase. Also, £120 isn’t really much for something you use everyday tbh m

There’s not much difference between £8 and £120 for something you use everyday but one will be higher build quality and have various quality of life features.

Also you shouldn’t save, you should invest

@lucy @arcana @sun I actually bought the new keyboard because my hands were really painful during covid and the 12+hour sitting in front of a computer that came with that and to my surprise it helped a lot. The old keyboard was some $10 Genius junk from ~2004 with keycaps with high actuation force (bad tolerances) that got stuck if you didn't press them completely in the middle.

@maija @lucy @sun @adachi my computer was like 2k GBP and my main laptop about 1k but I know people with computers worth 10,000s

It’s not a waste of money imo, I like it and it’s comfortable to work on, more comfortable than others I’ve used and I don’t regret the purchase

The way I see it, spending is good because the more you spend the more you need to make so it encourages a growth mindset

@eemmaa @lucy @maija @sun @adachi yeah mine isn’t mechanical but I did use one of those in the past when I was a semi pro counter strike player. The responsiveness was good but the clicking did grate on some people haha

@mia @lucy @arcana @sun @adachi @maija honestly I feel like certain switches have increased my productivity, same reason gamurz always don cherry mx reds. My only regret is not getting a bigger keeb layout cuz the compact I got was the same price as tenkeyless. I got the hotkeys down but it had a curve.

My grandad always told me to get a good mattress and pair of shoes, cause you'll be in one or the other for your whole day. nowadays, i'd extend that to office chair too.

@adachi @sun yeah honestly this layout sucks. it should just be a normal full size keyboard with f1-f24 and maybe a bunch of macro keys

@sun @mia @lucy @maija @adachi @teratology Exactly, I use my keyboard more than I use my driving gloves and they were more expensive than the keyboard.

You wouldn’t buy clothes that cost $8, why would you buy a keyboard that did

@maija @mia @lucy @sun @adachi @teratology I did get some H&M stuff when younger as I thought the style was cool but it seemed to fall apart after a few washes

@ElDeadKennedy @sun
This is pretty similar, this is the keyboard i have (i know, i posted it earlier it just very arousing)

@maija @mia @lucy @sun @adachi @teratology nope, I just find them comfortable, warm, and great for grip. Most of all though, I have them for the same reason I have so many jackets, shawls, hats, jewellery, ray ban glasses, belts, shoes, boots, and scarves

Because I like the style and I like to dress well. While my tastes are somewhat old fashioned I do like to be fashionable.

Most of the stuff I have, if looked after, will last me centuries

@sun @arcana @mia @lucy @maija @teratology I miss my old steel series keyboard with detachable top so you could change the keyboard layout. It stopped working and was too old to get a reliable replacement
