@lucy@sun my keyboard is very basic and only cost £120 ($150), it doesn’t even have coloured light up keys so I can easily see how there’s one going for $500. I’d personally forgo the lewd display however.
@lucy@sun mine had free shipping because I bought it in person, it was an emergency purchase because my previous keyboard broke when water leaked on it
@arcana@lucy@david@sun $150 USD for a membrane keyboard should be criminal. I spent around $60 on my Patriot Viper (yes it's a gaymer keyboard) 4 years ago and it was almost the cheapest mechanical keyboard I could buy that didn't have completely no-name chinesium switches. Apart from the double-typing it started to develop this year that fixes itself after few days I've never had any problems with it.
@arcana@sun it's certainly wasted when my 15€ keyboard does the job just as well with no drawbacks. except when you're neurotic about how it feels to press a button ig.
@maija@lucy@sun@adachi I use my keyboard to work and make money therefore it was a good purchase. Also, £120 isn’t really much for something you use everyday tbh m
There’s not much difference between £8 and £120 for something you use everyday but one will be higher build quality and have various quality of life features.
@lucy@arcana@sun I actually bought the new keyboard because my hands were really painful during covid and the 12+hour sitting in front of a computer that came with that and to my surprise it helped a lot. The old keyboard was some $10 Genius junk from ~2004 with keycaps with high actuation force (bad tolerances) that got stuck if you didn't press them completely in the middle.
@eemmaa@lucy@maija@sun@adachi yeah mine isn’t mechanical but I did use one of those in the past when I was a semi pro counter strike player. The responsiveness was good but the clicking did grate on some people haha
@mia@lucy@arcana@sun@adachi@maija honestly I feel like certain switches have increased my productivity, same reason gamurz always don cherry mx reds. My only regret is not getting a bigger keeb layout cuz the compact I got was the same price as tenkeyless. I got the hotkeys down but it had a curve.
@arcana@lucy@maija@sun My grandad always told me to get a good mattress and pair of shoes, cause you'll be in one or the other for your whole day. nowadays, i'd extend that to office chair too.
@maija@mia@lucy@sun@adachi@teratology I did get some H&M stuff when younger as I thought the style was cool but it seemed to fall apart after a few washes
@maija@mia@lucy@sun@adachi@teratology nope, I just find them comfortable, warm, and great for grip. Most of all though, I have them for the same reason I have so many jackets, shawls, hats, jewellery, ray ban glasses, belts, shoes, boots, and scarves
Because I like the style and I like to dress well. While my tastes are somewhat old fashioned I do like to be fashionable.
Most of the stuff I have, if looked after, will last me centuries
@sun@arcana@mia@lucy@maija@teratologyI miss my old steel series keyboard with detachable top so you could change the keyboard layout. It stopped working and was too old to get a reliable replacement
