realizing that scientists thoroughly studied this in the same way that they studied every other piece of the universe casts a sobering effect on me. probably because i'm for the first time seeing the people i most respect treating the subject rationally (with purpose) rather than emotionally (with jokes and perversion and disgust).

gives me faith tbh.

@eemmaa i remember as a child asking my christian parents how old can a person get and they said 120 (instead of "oh, they usually live to about 80" for some reason). i don't think i've ever heard about anyone being over 120. is 120 something mentioned in the bible or something?

@eemmaa @georgia did you know that the people to receive the first life extension treatments are likely to live forever? because once they get a life extension they can probably live long enough to get the next invented life extension treatment and it just keeps on repeating until we invent immortality.

also, some science dude said that since life extensions are already in development the first people that will ride this wave are probably already alive today.

@eemmaa @Nepiant that was a human being exercising their free will to be evil. If it were say, brain cancer, or a bolt of lightning, you could say God did it. Sure God allows free will to include evil acts but because of karma no suffering goes unaddressed. Youll get your due and more I promise. Feel free to hate my guts if it doesnt happen soon enough.

@georgia @Nepiant just feel like thats a privileged view point in my opinion, most suffering goes unaddressed. Karma is unrealistic and about as useful as pacifism when the rubber hits the road.

@eemmaa @Nepiant karma is misunderstood by westerners to mean "everyone gets whats coming in this lifetime". "if youre nice to people, theyre nice to you back" type shit. what karma mostly means is "if you are good, you get a good rebirth, if you are evil, you get reborn into the womb of someone ignorant/an animal/go to hell for a bit"

what's beautiful about this system is perfect cosmic order is maintained, dharma is upheld, but humans in Earth-like worlds and lower are enabled to think there is no God or even that God is Bad. Total illusion of freedom for the ignorant. God is allowed to forget Herself.

But God is both infinitely just and infinitely merciful. There is LITERALLY no sin that God cannot forgive. And there is no one too evil to experience grace.

Am I privileged by my birth (karma)? somewhat, but also I'm the least well off by several metrics compared to anyone in my immediate and extended family. I am privileged that few people have chosen to do evil to me in this lifetime, though, youre right.

@georgia @Nepiant I am so tired of you feeding me Indian stuff and trying to get me to like god. Here’s a lonely blooming tree I took a picture of earlier.
