@haematophage I think this probably has more to do with the fact that Muhammad wasn't celibate, unlike Jesus. I would imagine there are plenty of references to important figures in the Old Testament for instance having child brides. I don't think it's a good thing, quite the contrary, but I think it's weird to focus on this specifically about Islam because it's a pretty common far-right dogwhistle and you getting more defensive about it only makes it weirder that you're choosing to die on this hill when like I said this is unfortunately a pretty universal thing in the ancient world unless you were literally celibate like Jesus lmao

if you do the math based on the timeline of events then aisha would be 16-19 but there is a curious bit of historical context where people wanted to stress how "pure" she was and leave no doubts about it, so through a game of telephone they somehow managed to shave off a decade from the timeline and didn't see a problem with that because of the time period. funnily enough no one ever bothered to fix the discrepancy with her sister's age relative to the timeline -- she is known to be 10 years older but timeline-wise she would have to be 20 years older. easy mistake to make when you don't keep birth records

speaking of keeping records, for like 200 years there was a culture of expressly *not* keeping records about the prophet muhammad due to aniconism, although oral traditions survived. (it's these oral traditions that form the basis of supplemental beliefs for many muslims even though there is nothing justifying it in the text of the quran)
