Christianity was the intended religion for the Legend of Zelda series, with the original 1986 Japanese version featuring an item explicitly called the Bible. unfortunately it was renamed to the "Book of Magic" in the 1987 English translated version to follow the guidelines of Nintendo of America 😔

yep the trinity was replaced with the 3 golden goddesses but interestingly they continued to include references to the crucifix anyways in official art.

@vitalis when my mom made me a Link costume (complete with Thundercats sword covered up with fabric) adults asked who I was supposed to be. When they invariably asked me who Link was, I repeated what my mom told me, given her understanding of the costume: a crusader.
I had no idea what that was, of course.
