Is it "without X I would have never had Y" or "without X I would never had Y"?

@kakafarm but "without X I would have never had Y" works too. It just sounds a little informal to my ear.

@IceCubeSoup Okay. @georgia also said it works. I will have to think about which one goes better with what I am trying to say.

@kakafarm @georgia the odd thing is that you need both "have" and "had" in the same sentence. I am at a loss to figure out a way to explain *WHY*.

@kakafarm @georgia @IceCubeSoup i can't think of any example where the 2nd form would work

@IceCubeSoup @georgia Isn't it strange? Normal people tacitly know a ton of English grammar, but most wouldn't be able to explain how it works. We can just use them in our speech and say which sentence sounds odd.
