The entire book is lovely. The battle is long and the knight practically dies, but falls into some healing water (classical medieval romance knightly battle)

I'm not sure if you have read La Chanson de Roland, but I read it in my medieval literature course and loved it. It's what really sparked my interest in HEMA

I have not! does it feature warfare? I'll have to give it a read if it made you interested in HEMA 👀

I had to read some of the Chanson de Geste (song of deeds) which are stories about knights doing brave things hearts_flying_pink3 every great night has a steed and blade with a name 😏

And I'm sure you're familiar with Chrétien de Troyes! Author of The Knight of the Cart (Lancelot) although I'm not as big of a fan of Courtly Love romances because it's so annoying. Knights simping after their Lady is a little pathetic animu_scared back in the day a romance was just great emotions, action and battles! hearts_flying_pink3

I took some Roman history classes and did a senior project where is studied the Gladius and smithed a blade replica. I'll have to dig up some photos to show you. It was ugly lamo

I didn't smith it historically accurate, but I used some primary sources to get the dimensions correct and the point of the project was to just *make* something as a representation of my learning instead of writing a million page project. I'll dig things up later, my kids are all waking up now

90% rambling, like going on about that one time that this guy....

@madison @vitalis I'll pass this on to the wife. I'm also 100% sure this absolutely will won't end up with little boys sword fighting in my house.

Oh yeah, I need to finish their swords and shields. I had to put that project on hiatus for a while because of weather and a few other things.
