I'm not calling it "polyamory" anymore, exclusively referring to it as polygamy from now on. sorry but you're all Mormons

@patchuun @nyx i just thought it was a weaksauce remark about something that doesn't warrant getting at peoples gullets about. there was a discussion and the discussion ended and the discussion could be reopened but if it were to be reopened it should be srs and not weaksauce

@lanodan free love is conceptually based even if it was practiced in a very flawed way by the counterculture (largely because of unexamined patriarchal norms (one of the best things Andrea Dworkin ever wrote is her chapter on this in Right-Wing Women)) but very few people these days really get it and will assume it has to turn into a relationship so it's not something I feel able to engage in. the culture that it was formed in was one where the material conditions were much different and people really did have the freedom to just engage in all kinds of freewheeling romances with people while living a nomadic lifestyle out of hippie vans and hitchhiking across the country, but nowadays everyone is immiserated and constantly living on a razor's edge of destitution. in order to bring back any actually existing free love ideals there would need to be a revolutionary change in the material conditions

@lanodan I'd just like to interject for a moment. what you're referring to as "love" is actually Free/Love, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Libre+Love. love is not an emotion unto itself but rather another free component of a fully functioning socius made useful for our species-being by labor and the relations of production as defined by Marx. many subjects under modernity experience a modified form of love every day without realizing it. through a peculiar turn of events, the version of sex and romance which is widely experienced today in the confines of domestic life, the couple-form, and reproduction is often called "love", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically an alienated form of love that develops out of the interconnectedness of all life on earth. there really is a love, and these people are using a version of it, but the emotions they experience are just a degenerated version of it.

love is the law: love under will. love is an essential part of life, but it is useless by itself; it can only function in the context of the realization of one's true will. love is normally used in combination with will: the whole system is basically will with love added. all the so-called "sexualities" are really distributions of an indiscriminate will to power that seeks to maximize its power to be affected by other bodies and to affect those bodies in turn.

@nyx Reminds me of how I've sometimes wanted to refer to economically co-dependent relationships as paid love.
