@georgia if the system time keeps resetting to something goofy like 1979 when you reboot, that is probably a dead CMOS battery on the motherboard. they're not difficult to change.
i have never heard of this causing signature verification to fail when instaling packages though. you may need to import a new gpg key manually for package signing. or just skip key checks if you want to live dangerously
