@vriska

Only good thing he's done so far is take out the Iranian dictatorship, and then refuse to send US soldiers in and let the people who live there handle their own affairs, which from a decoolonial perspective is fantastic. Because past presidents did not support redrawing the arbitrary colonial era borders that had split tribes up and caused internal ethnic divisions that kept the post-colonial states weak from infighting. If this continues as policy that their postwar organization is self-determined, we may see a reorganization of the middle east and africa along traditional precolonial borders which could usher in a healthier regional political era. (one country doing it sets a precedent).

His reasoning is probably political expediency and not giving a fuck about nation building, but him being a dumbass is working out in this case, provided it holds.

Still, the second he ain't president, he needs to be held to accounnt for the epstein shit.

@vriska
I dunno, get back to me in 5-10 years as Europe doesn't believe in borders like the vegetable and see if the US or EU fares better. Regarding bombing an area 2/3 the size of Europe, I'm by no means a fan, but there's no comparison in who to elect last go around. I would have preferred Ron Paul, but that window has long since passed.

The IRGC categorically hates everyone who isn't 12er Shi'a, male, and either Persian or Alevi. That's basically 85% of their own country that they oppress. Never mind the proxy wars in Yemen and Iraq, and executing people who are gay, or beating women who show some hair, or executing those who change their religion. It's like North Korea but bigger and heretical muslim. Turn the cult factor up from 6 to 11. America doesn't hate women anywhere near as much as iran hates women.

@vriska @technicallydifficult khalid, our enemies are not flesh and blood. theyre not the girls at school, or iranian soldiers, or even iran’s leaders, and we should not be wantonly treating them as such. you are right to be horrified by the institutional bigotry of the iranian state, as im sure you are by the institutional evils here in the US. there is no clear-cut solution. there is no violence one can wield to burn away the sins of this world and make them right. death has a way of infesting everything. dont put your trust in earthly things, let alone bloodshed.

1

@technicallydifficult @vriska even if one is to trust in clean violence, the american sword is a particularly nasty one. weve seen the atrocities america has committed time and time again, especially in the middle east. why would it be different this time?

1
0
1

@technicallydifficult @vriska those atrocities arent against the institutions and real societal evils, theyre against people. most of them civilians. what good is protecting people from institutional evils if theyre in the ground?

"Oh people of the Quraysh, (procedes to list every clan) What do you say of me?"
"You are the Honest One, Muhammad ibn Abdullah"
"If I told you, that behind this hill, there was an army ready to invade, would you believe me?"
"Yes of course, you have never lied."
(he proceded to tell them about tawhid)
(Abu Lahab threw mud at him and told him to shut up)
This is relatable when I tell people about why islam is a fucking problem based on my lived experiences and islamic studies, and what people I know from the middle east have said to me. Islam makes the RNC look like a fuckin pride festival.

I love the gays enough to protect them. The overton window moved, I didn't. I'm still working from a Marxist Dialectical Materialist frame, Islam advocates for feudalism. It is therefore an existential threat to all the people I love. All my values. Pluralism, freedom of choices, the right to abortion, and women's self determination, the identities and lives of my lgbt friends. Scholarship, science, innovation.... And I know it all the more acutely because I saw how Islam is from the inside. Whatever our internal political differences are in the west should be set aside to deal with this threat, because it is civilizational level. Race does not matter. Islam is an idea, and that makes it difficult to destroy. But it must not be allowed to spread or continue. The muslims are suffering because of it, and the movers and shakers are gonna try to make everyone else suffer with them.

When the masjid al haram is a museum with a memorial for cult survivors and victims and the museum cafe serves BLT's and kombucha, then maybe we can worry about petty bullshit like left vs right.

As far as violence, it is sometimes needed. But is the last option in the tool kit. "I'm a lover not a fighter on the frontline with a poem." in the words of Lupe Fiasco.

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) of `Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her religion."

Once you've been past it, you just do not need meat, or all the ugly attachments - and the carbonization especially.

@indyradio @technicallydifficult the point im making is that there is more of an impact based on arable land and rising pop vs carbon. both are bad but there are ways people can deal with carbon in theory. there is no way to deal with half the farmland on earth being devoted to meat eating
