@kirby people (including myself) have a nostalgia boner for it now but I'm old enough to remember how dogshit and rightfully hated it was at launch and how poorly it ran on a lot of the available/affordable hardware at the time

@kirby @patchuun I vaguely remember it too tbhngl. I wasn't into computers seriously but I remember how big of a deal the service packs were to make it better.

@kirby @monkey @georgia kinda me tbh, I certainly didn't install it all by myself when I was 6. I was the first in the family to daily drive it as my main system and the only to become a full on ideologue about it tho

@kirby @monkey @patchuun snowden shit is what got me into free software, especially the site prismbreak. also adobe getting hacked and leaking my email and password that year didnt help.

@kirby @monkey @patchuun I grew up on only apple computers so it wasnt like I was gonna be able to use linux until I was old enough to self-advocate for getting a linux laptop (and being female I was less likely to be taken seriously at such a request at a younger age as well).
