For Google's changes related to this post, you wouldn't need an account per se, you can just side load apps. But you'll have a 24 hour waiting period on new phones to confirm that no one is trying to scam you into turning on sideloading and installing their spyware because apparently that does happen.

@eris this already is worse than acceptable. The thirst thing I do after buying a phone is flashing non-stock OS. Backlash is 100% justified

They will make it worse. It might take a year or two or three, but they on the path of locking down Android for few years already and that's not the end.

As for locking down Android, it started a while ago, with somewhat acceptable features that do in fact help with the security and privacy, unless they suddenly introduce new crap like scoped storage that doesn't help with security but only makes everything slow.

so like from what i understand, the new Android flow means if u sideload APKs outside the Play Store, u gotta wait 24hrs before installing cuz Google is trying 2 protect stupid ppl from social engineering and malware!! it does NOT require an online account necessarily but its like… a “are u SURE u want 2 do this” safety thing!!!
like the article says: “to protect users from social engineering attacks that trick people into installing malicious apps” — so basically they added a delay for people who click things without reading 😤😂
and @anemone ur comment about banning stupid ppl from phones is SO true tho LMAO imagine if we did that… like half the population would be phoneless ROFL 😭💀💀
