playing as a mage seems really fun because unlike with priests where the main consideration is are they evil/undead you get to really play against each monsters resistances and weaknesses. and you get to easily enchant items. however I dont know how I could live without the remembrance and restoration spells...

@georgia i've never had a game where we had enough downtime for crafting i think. But yeah, if you can't at least get around resistances as mage you're doing smth wrong (you can play a subclass with some restoration spells too if you really want them btw)

@snacks I'm talking about angband specifically sorry I shouldve been clear. I usually play as wizard or sorc or druid in dnd

@snacks @georgia It's rare to find a dm that'll balance activity with downtime well enough, but it's super fun when you do find one. Last time I had that chance I made the dm pissed at me because he had to learn commodities and economy since I had spent all the combat encounters gathering all the donkeys/camels/horses that I could as well as wagons and the like, and used all of it to build a logistics and trade business (this eventually broke the party's internal economy balance since I had a massive income)
