why is FRE dead?

well there are several reasons
a. i tried to leave fedi, and failed spectacularly
b. my accounts tl was a mess and i didn't feel like fixing it
c. the vps got billed when my card had nothing on it so i backed everything up and cancelled it lol
if i really wanted to i could put FRE up somewhere and keep it going.. but i don't want to, so it's staying dead at least for now. thanks

new pinned post because FRE dying seems to have caught a few people off guard.. so this'll hopefully be a satisfactory explanation as to why i'm here instead of on there. the FRE bloat is still online btw i just moved it to another machine i happen to be in control of

I have used netcup before and it was annoying when I couldn't cancel vps right away. had to pay even tho I didn't want it anymore. Cause weird German law or something

OVH is even better. If you don't cancel a VPS service that is set to manual renewal before the renewal deadline, you won't be able to delete your account without asking their legendary bad support and waiting for more than a week.

@dps910 @kirby less of a law thing, more of an austrian/german cultural thing where contracts for things as cheap as web hosting and VPS are interpreted letter by letter and send debt collectors to your door to collect your 1€ lack of payment instead of just suspending the service until its paid again like any normal european provider
hetzner and netcup do that, in germany i think avoro doesn't
