conservatives say they want a gender binary but they actually have at least a gender pentanity: man, woman, faggot, dyke, slut. children don't have a gender/sex really until they reach puberty at which point they eventually have one of the genders assigned to them or pick it out themself. depending on how obsessed with properly maintaining this they are trans people are either strictly verboten (bc they interfere with a sacred biological assignment) or an acceptable alternative to being a failing man or woman.

likewise when most libs say they want to abolish the gender binary, they usually mean changing the evaluation of people outside of it, rather than decentring the main two genders. they cannot conceive of a world where reproductive labour has lost its primacy, its grip upon humanity; so they grasp for an administrative solution to an engineering problem.

meanwhile the radical gender expressivists insist on an unique gender descriptor for each individual with their owns pronouns etc, promoting an effective complete gender anomie unaware of the fact that gender is something speech-act like, a kind of game; and everyone playing their own version would effectively well and truly abolish it, leading to a global gender apathy, or a return to the pre-mandatory pronoun pin etc norms.
