@meeper its so neat that the vedas are way older than the script used to write them. I love how you can write sanskrit with so many alphabets, there is no sanskrit alpabet

@georgia yeah brahmic characters were first used to record prakrits

also the alphabet technically existed before the script

@meeper @georgia When did the Vedic texts begin to be written down and how did this influence the literary culture of India? The śākhās didn't have a monopoly on the Vedas forever.

@Forestofenchantment @georgia not I think sanskrit started to be inscribed by around like 1bc

I suppose in the case of vedas not too much, it was an obligation for most brahmins and not for most others.

However afaik india did seem to have a naturallyndecent literacy rate (especially considerkng the sheer diversitu of scripts)

abjads and abuguidas are the worst. I'd rather have to memorize 2000 kanji instead of try to read fucking arabic or bengali.

You're a Hebrew tho... There's a certain amount of familiarity that comes from culture even if you're not beliving in your ancestral ways, it's like, I can just kind of intuitively understand Old Norse somehow.

@georgia The individual characters are beautiful but they fall apart as a coherent script, just like India as a nation state!

Son't tell me you can read that without double taking. Germanic scripts though? Both stylish and crystal clear.

@yakmacker @georgia Sorry but I prefer scripts that don't require a professional certification in geometry to read and write in.
