@lebronjames75 I should get some of that, its getting ridiculous. walked about 20ft in a wooded area, pulled 2 off my face and later 3 off my pants. One tick had its own tick on him

@whirly not last spring, but last last spring, it was the worst in finland

an hour of walking in brush/hay would equal to over 20 ticks on my clothes. thats when i bit the bullet on the neurotoxin/insecticide, havent looked back since. (it kills cats too though so be aware of this knowledge)

@whirly lol youre gonna be fucked sooner than later then

pants ends always into socks
regular tick checks (makes you a bit schizo but the schizo is worth it)
no shorts when out and about in the brush (even in the city areas)

~15% of ticks here have lyme, give or take regionally and time of year. another extra 2% have the encephalitis virus of "enjoy a life in a wheelchair if you make it out alive"

a one in 5 chance of permanent crippling per tick bite isnt something im willing to risk with, ive had 4 tick bites in my life and gotten lucky so far (have also antibody checked for the sicknesses). ive found triple digit numbers of ticks on me or so, i dont know how many, a lot

@lebronjames75 omg you’ve only had FOUR tick bites?? Four bites ever?? oh god i gotta get checked. I probably get 4 bites a week in the summer every summer maybe 4 bites in a day on some days. I think Lymes pretty common in NH and Maine.

@whirly @georgia to TLDR a story from an old man from the islands at home in estonia

"ive been bit by 100 ticks, never got sick, but this one last bite, got me sick, now im paralysed and in pain"

you oughta up your awareness game by a lot. the lottery chances depend exclusively on your region, and maybe 1% per game, to 30% per game played (game meaning, tick bite lasting an hour or longer with no proper sterilizing after tick removal) for lyme disease

im not sure if tickborne encephalitis exists in the USA, so im not gonna bother writing about that

@lebronjames75 @whirly lyme disease is a spirochete (penetrates the BBB) so it in late stages has strong deleterious effects on the nervous system. wouldnt be surprised if paralysis and ataxia/apraxia are included.

@georgia @whirly You might also get the rare lucky of nearly no symptoms from Lyme, but then the encephalitis can still one shot you too a painful existence

I hear in America they carry a special variant of the disease that makes you allergic to beef lol
