@monkey when stupid twink posted this on bluesky i quoted that TEC and the ELCA are in full communion so they should be kissing if anything and then a lutheran (elca) church liked my post meaning the elca officially endorses clerical yaoi

@monkey theres no deep subtext. lutherans and episcopalians get along great. also im pretty sure brie’s mom is an episcopal priest though she had to ask so she clearly wasnt actually very involved in chirch growing up

@georgia @monkey its quite common! moving membership between episcopal and lutheran churches is very easy for example

@georgia @monkey TEC is in full communion with other anglican churches, the elca, and anglican-adjacent churches like some european protestant churches and old catholics. they require apostolic succession for full communion. the ELCA has less stringent requirements and is in communion with a bunch of other american mainline denominations and most major lutheran churches globally iirc. this does get a little slippery though bc the church of sweden doesnt consider elca orders valid bc of no obedience requirement of clergy to bishops (tec also had issues with that but changed our canons for the sake of friendship) so the church of sweden will speed-ordain any elca pastor who does something there

@georgia @monkey ELCA bishops are ordained by episcopal bishops and episcopal orders carry old catholic orders so technically elca kinda has old catholic succession 🧠

@lizzie @monkey what would it take for old Catholics and episcopalians to be in communion with the roman Catholic church? kinda weird to me that Lutherans would be so close to catholics in degrees of separation... aren't old catholics super close to being catholics even closer than say eastern orthodox?
