@technolyze unfortunately my posting style is influenced by gay zoomers but otherwise the only overt female gender signifier I have is longish hair and thats due to self neglect not to wanting to be a pretty girl. most of my clothes are mens clothes or androgynous. my manner of speech irl is autistic. my interests are a mix. the whole idea is to not perform at all.

@georgia I’m just deciding that your activities feel like a performance of femininity, it doesn’t matter what the activities are as it is largely a social construct so I can decide how you live and socialize is a performance of female as it is a largely meaningless decision based on vague dividing lines, cut your hair hippie

@technolyze gender is a social construct but its constructed particularly in a hierarchical nature to subordinate women to men. so its not entirely arbitrary, there are patterns... neofox_magnify

@georgia but what if I decide through some world salad to create an argument your interest in eastern religion and long hair is a performance of femininity

@medievalwars @technolyze everything is real because everything is Brahman. but some things are real like dreams are real, and since the play of prakriti doesnt touch the atman, samsaric existence is like a dream in its transience.

@georgia @technolyze men having the role of warriors and wielders of violence and power in general is a direct consequence of the fact that women cant win a fight against even a teenage boy, thats as real as the realest thing you can imagine, just saying that something is a "social construct" doesnt mean it can be changed or that anybody has "chosen" it, it just is, its a phenomenon that happens in social species, just like having certain organs is a phenomenon that happens in mammals.

Tell the deer that it is now a predator, the deer just has to change its role, just by force of sheer will.

@medievalwars @georgia she specified the performance at the start of the thread, this implies cultural expression , while it might have some root in nature through whatever qualities you might pick it is not the subject of the conversation , the performance is

@technolyze @medievalwars but what is shes a mayavadan and says "no, the world is unreal, an imposition on Brahman by maya". or what if she a sri vaishnaiva and says "no, this universe is real because its the body of Vishnu" or what if shes a rangtong buddhist who says "nothing is inherently real because everything is impermanent, the only consistency is emptiness".

@technolyze @georgia performance isnt a thing on itself, its a direct signifier of more real things, like having shorter hair as a man can mean you fight other men and need to keep it short because they can grab you by it. Or having it long can mean that you are so strong nobody even messes with you and you can afford to have it long which is a weakness in combat, etc.

Performance isn't a thing in itself, its always about something else.

@technolyze @medievalwars if I met a girl at yoga class I'd probably just rant about how anglo yoga is not real yoga and I'd call her a liar when she says she meditates

@medievalwars @georgia most people don’t maintain short hair to fight they do it cause it’s the cultural expectation lol

@technolyze @georgia its just an example, the point is that it has to be connected to something real otherwise it is rendered irrelevant, also it changes depending on the society, the times, etc. but it always has to communicate something real, otherwise it serves no purpose.

For example in a society where men have short hair because they fight and women have long hair because it signals good health being able to keep a long healthy hair, if a woman were to choose to have short hair, she would be signaling not that she fights, and not that she is not healthy enough to have long hair, but maybe that she has some psychological thing that makes her different, and that could be a good or a bad thing, or interpreted as attractive by a subset of the men and unattractive by others, etc.

Or maybe that makes her seem like an easy sex opportunity but not stable for a long term relationship with children, or whatever.

There is also deception, many people will imitate the performance without having the underlying quality, and if enough % of the population does it, usually the whole standard changes
