I would have actually told you with a straight face "it's not just us" like that changes anything. You're right.

@Owl it's very much all of Europe, half of south America, large swaths of east Asia too, etc etc

If I could fix it on the personal level I would, I lost contact with that part of myself a l o n g time ago. Most of us are Moloch kindling, that was just always going to be that way because regressing to the mean just means being an amoral degenerate, it's the easy way.

@Owl idk I think trying to be kind to people who are kind to me is the way to go. I'm not rich or insane enough to think I can affect a meaningful change and I'm far from perfect

I'd describe my ideology as "be excellent to everyone or else"

That has to be liberating to some extent, being able to afford that.

@Owl it's a great way to live and part of why I like living where I do so much. Tiny island culture is just "everyone is friendly to each other all the time by default regardless of anything"

The last major criminal incident here was an Israeli getting deported for staying past his visa to deface a free Palestine mural lmao

My life conditioned me to be the person who starts off on an antagonistic foot because it was just how things were done around me. Weird to think about. Never really had to be like that. You're fortunate. Life's simple for you.

@Owl my life was like that for a long time tbh. Dunno what really switched up besides getting cancer and moving here. And again I'm very far from perfect, especially when I'm having chronic illness problems I revert to being a jerk for no reason. I think I eventually realized I was playing a pretty big part in my own misery and all I can really control is my own behavior. I am very lucky I had the things happen to me that did that helped me try to live like this

Guess I'm too proud to admit to any kind of discomfort. Wild. I didn't know you had any kind of chronic illness though which is surprising for some reason. Seems like everyone does these days though. idk.

@Owl I've got the same kind of genetic mutation that's currently killing my mom and got my grandma and great aunt smh. Colon cancer at 27 and all kinds of bleeding holes in my digestive system. That kinda experience did just kinda change me for the better. Most of the time i end up getting into fights these days it's because I'm having a bad pain day so I'm not disciplined enough to not be a bitch. I'm just doing my best and I genuinely do want to be nice to everyone until they prove I shouldnt

@georgia@netzsphaere.xyz is spiritual enough for the rest of them, should even out somewhat.

@joey @vriska russia isn't even worth comparing, it's like talking about the habitability of a moldy flooded basement versus that of the bottom of the ocean
