any claim lobotomy could ever have to being just a misguided form of early psychosurgery was permanently vitiated by its known severe side effects early on including as high as a 20 percent chance of death. and after knowing all this "ice pick lobotomies" became the most popular form of lobotomy and were performed without even seeing the affected brain tissue and by barely trained practitioners. nothing about lobotomy was good, you might as well cut the legs off of someone with restless leg syndrome. at least they become more passive and easy to control!

@georgia it is pretty shocking that people did it. even JFK's sister got it and was predictably not better off because of it. Hope we can learn from it.
