just got to 900 elo, my sights are set on 1000 now - ultimately aiming for 1100 to 1200 before i start feeling good about my chess ability

the reti is literally the most destructive opening imaginable below 1000 elo

my new chess regime is i just refuse to ever resign to see if i can force a draw or victory on time but sometimes it results in agonising positions where my opponent has +10 material and has been a M1 for 20 moves but keeps missing all the checkmates

mfw i've got a brilliant move but it wont let me see it bcs ive used my daily review

we love to see it

which of these should i be adding to the repertoire oomfs? The first is +2.2 according to the engine while the latter is +1.7 but black fumbles mate in one in 45% of games

i actually like ai now bcs i was looking up a specific sideline of the englund gambit that apparently <1% of players play when they get the option and it told me about this whole blogpost by a guy about various fun tricks you can do even in losing positions in the englund https://siderite.dev/blog/breaking-all-rules-with-englund-gambit

its very funny that you can make a slight sideline of a very common position and announce that you;ve named it after yourself on your tiny blog and AI will tell anyone looking it up that it's known as The Siderite Variation

can anyone who's better at chess help me understand why this pawn move that's only chosen 3% of the time is the best engine move and wins 52% of games despite being at a 2.6 material disadvantage?

@erin I've been making a repertoire for the englund bcs im determined to prove that it actually can perform, and to do that I've been doing a whole load of looking through the lichess database and stockfish at what to do after white fully pulls off the refutation, bcs there's actually a lot of stuff and even more bs tricks that can be pulled unless the white player knows the englund 12 moves of theory deep

@erin i settled on c6 in the end bcs it allows me a potential fork between the knight and the spot the rook will go to get my knight / my dark bishop if it shoots out later to grab something

noticing that the worst of the viable moves here is way more popular with higher level players than anyone else, having to snoop around on lichess to work out if there's some crazy gotcha trap hidden in plain sight
