@allison China would still have a 30 year life expectancy without Marxism leninism

@sun @allison a lot of rights still came from the cultural revolution. And Mao's struggles led to the Black Panther Party, we wouldn't have free school breakfast, school busses, or a lot of civil rights without them.

Communism is still such a threat to the US today that we're blockading Cuba, so it's weird to act like theory has no use case

@eris @allison I’m speaking strictly of lifting china out of poverty. Also deng wasn’t “not communist “ but he was breaking from immediate full revolution right now and understood you needed to speedrun industrialization with socialist guardrails first

@sun @allison yeah but ML theory even explains dengism, Mao created a new ruling class through the cultural revolution, and the struggle against that class created a new economic state that offered the benefits of Mao's overthrow with industrial needs, it's just dialectical materialism.

Just wanna make that about the theory part since people are quick to say like, well leader bad so theory irrelevant

@eris @allison I agree that Deng is not a violation of theory per say but it definitely was a practical break from disastrous theory-lovers. Even while I agree with you that you can’t discount theory

@eris @allison Without Marxism-Leninism the Kuomintang would've won control of China and it also would no longer have a 30 year life expectancy

@eris @allison Would've also avoided the great leap forward and cultural revolution that caused 10s of millions of people to starve to death

@georgia @allison @scathach these seem like minor gripes compared to how China is the only thing even remotely coming close to challenging the US's super power status. Without them the fascists would have already succeeded in far right globalism and the planet would be an oil guzzling Disneyland

@eris @allison @scathach china has its own form of resource extraction imperialism but youre right. a multipolar world is a good thing

@eris @allison @georgia I generally think a multipolar world is a good thing but this is a really myopic take, China is every bit as evil as the US is

@scathach @allison @georgia id rather fight China in the post-America world than grumble about how everyone's bad and not let the US be destroyed
