I've never been in the military, but it sounds like the higher you go up the ranks the more it's just useless middle managers LARPing in camo.

I think what happened is the AC was hitting capacity and they wanted to keep the Important People cool - which is honestly pretty hilarious.

Its dependent, some of the senior NCOs are invaluable when shit hits the fan. They are the guys a mortar hits their office, they drag a cigar, and say "yeah we need 5 men at the south gate, and an umbrella for this hole. Others are just useless as tits on a boar.

Lots of air force, marines, even have an uncle who terrorized tunnel gooks in Vietnam. Got White glove inspections as a kid and little spoils of war gifts. One of my female cousins applied after she saw G.I. Jane and got discharged for being too defiant. Which I guess it what happens when you interrupt an Anglo-Norman line with a shot of 100% Irish.

I call it a non-profit because they get the criminal underclass for enlisted and petty officers and the retarded children of well-off families to be officers and they pay them to exist in extreme dysfunction and generating zero value whatsoever.

When I was in the navy I would hear officers brag about having worked in the private sector once before they joined the military, basically they know everybody there is useless and stays there until retirement, so having been a waiter in a private company is something to brag about.

@Hoss @Dudebro Most respectable NCO I knew was an E7 (Sergeant First Class). He was a lifer, had 30 years in when I knew him, his drill sergeants fought in Nam. He said that he would never climb any higher due to the amount of asskissing that that would require.

E6 to E7 is a congressional promotion, his ass was already in the system and he was well skilled at ass kissery. He just never went to FSC or SMA to go higher. I served in the Fallujah AO during the initial invasion and our armory NCO had served in Vietnam, I jad to go get a crash course on the M60 from him when my M2 failed since we had no TMs for it.
