Y'know, not to shit on you or anything. But you probably should've bought a Thonkpad that can be librebooted and used with your Linux distribution of choice.

Being stuck to Asahi which is effectively just Fedora ought to be miserable unless you're already heavily integrated into that ecosystem.

@Saorsa I'm not attached to any linux ecosytem except maybe xfce. I've been meaning to give fedora and KDE a try and also I believe that other distros will have builds for m computers with time

I sincerely doubt that with one mentally unstable developer doing a lot of the groundwork to provide compatibility with Apple silicon.

Ever thought about trying a *BSD system at some point, though?

It's like Linux but with extra steps since soystemd does a lot of the auto-configuration and deployment for us. On FreeBSD you often need to do a lot of that stuff manually through rc files.

@georgia @kaia Some of the beefier lenovo laptops have that for the camera and mic. Mine has it but it's just permanently off since I don't use the camera at all.

@georgia @kaia IDK it should just be a matter of opening it up and desoldering it. I don't touch the things, so no idea what the software control inrterface is like. I assume they have some sort of device list where you can just forcefully disable hardware drivers if you look hard enough.

@nerthos @kaia I think I'll just leave it for now and disable it on the driver side when I'm up to it

@georgia @kaia You got a mac to wipe it and run linux on it? weird choice but better than running on their propietary ecosystem

@georgia @kaia That seems like the best compromise if you really want to access mac software.

@nerthos @kaia I have seen some sources say that on macbooks the mic is physically disabled when the computer is shut, that may be enough for me

@georgia @kaia That should be possible to confirm by looking at IT manuals for the model.
