@georgia I did for quite a while, went back to Android because the native maps app I was using at the time was buggy and osmand was unusable under the Android emulator

@scathach @georgia that maps app is mostly fine now, and osmand also runs at a reasonable framerate

@georgia @scathach things that are NOT okay:

  • low memory management (they’re using swap-on-zram instead of zswap which is retarded and causes issues)
  • UI animations are way too slow (i wanted to rewrite my patch to add a settings page)

@georgia @scathach

  • network management still uses intel’s connman, which was reasonable at the time that choice was made but NetworkManager has since then gained support for all the missing features and is a lot more reliable

@mia @scathach thanks for the info. do you use any android apps with android app support? and which ones?

@georgia @scathach just banking and public transit stuff (because fare enforcers gave me shit for apps that looked unfamiliar to them even if the QR code was valid)

my bank doesn’t use safetynet on anything that looks like AOSP so idk how hard it’d be to get that to work. absolute worst i had to deal with is the InterRail app which requires a lock screen to be enabled, and for that to work properly i needed a stub implementation of an android service that is missing from the compat layer (someone else has already done that work, mercifully)
