@krankheit it's such a silly thing that atheists say. there's an idea I've heard, i don't remember where, that before you're born you get to choose the kind of life you want to live. it's a very pretty idea to me, and it's comforting to imagine -1 year old salt trolling me by picking amerikkka in the 21st century.

@salt my family was like, christian in the sense that we went to church and this came up a couple times, and my mother actually felt kinda guilty about having children later on cos i guess she got sniped by some antinatalist thinkpiece but also "i didnt ask to be born" was a relatively common refrain. so i dont think it's like exclusive to atheists

@krankheit being born is only a curse for atheists. for an ahlulkitab to say it seems tantamount to rejecting faith.

side note ppl think about children so weird these days. children are for helping out on the farm, taking care of you when you're old, marrying into wealth, that kind of thing. but everyone's too kantian nowadays and they look at me like I'm evil for saying this.

@salt this is kind of not exactly the idea behind karma. like the tibetan book of the dead (not the best example of genuine buddhism maybe but hey idk (i really don't)) literally says you pick your womb and enter it when your parents are making you and there are like good and bad wombs based off of like where they're at and what they're about and all that.

@salt tbf it was mostly my twat ass complaining, generally responded to by a "nobody asked for it sweetheart [read: dipshit]". and i mean kant aside (i need to read him sometime) this is a really uncompassionate way to think and that feels like an oppressive way to view another person. like i'd kill somebody before i let my mother (probably also father, idk) go to a nursing home if i had any kind of say about it but that's out of love and a slowly sense of (in)justice than it is out of obligation. tho unfortunately i'm probably never gonna be much of a breadwinner and may just not be around when that time comes but whatever i think my sisters and brother generally feel the same, and have like actual life plans and aren't dysfunctional useless eaters
