@psnacks @meso @Evdo @lucy @snacks @vivi @vivi it’s just breakaway point

@mia @snacks @vivi @vivi @lucy @meso @Evdo @psnacks I've understood people's obsession with German compound words. They seem to be just like phrases in English.

@Hyolobrika @snacks @vivi @vivi @lucy @meso @Evdo @psnacks basically, yeah. but germans are autistic so they removed the ambiguity at the cost of readability.

@psnacks @vivi @mia @Evdo @lucy @meso @snacks idk man listen maybe it's my brain damage but german sucks so much more compared to english like whenever im studying and have to read german anything its such a fucking pain and so hard to parse and i have to lock in so hard to understand anything and i feel constantly lost and then i read the same thing in english and not only immediately get everything described but memorize the new information better as well

@vivi @psnacks @Evdo @lucy @meso @snacks @vivi for me it’s mostly a matter of what i’m used to in the context of whatever subject i’m trying to study. like for anything with computers and electronics i obviously work with the english language a lot because 99% of documentation and materials are in english. neurons that fire together wire together, so obviously it’s easier to engage with that in english. switching to german then requires constant translation until i get used to it…

but the same goes for other languages cirno_shrug

@mia @snacks @vivi @vivi @meso @Evdo @psnacks the only case where i prefer german is when looking up recipes cause it reliably filters out bullshit essays with no measurements or steps on how to actually cook the damn thing.
otherwise why on earth would you NOT use english?

@vivi @psnacks @Evdo @lucy @meso @snacks @vivi the other factor is that german is a bit anxiety-inducing for me because i’ve had so many bad experiences in school. that potentially makes learning harder as well. but the language itself is fine. i used to soak up knowledge like a sponge before all that

@vivi @psnacks @Evdo @lucy @meso @snacks @vivi the language that’s truly awful to learn computer/electronics stuff in is japanese though. half of everything is just katakana, like why the fuck are they even bothering, just use english at that point

@eemmaa @vivi @vivi @mia @Evdo @meso @psnacks @snacks it's annoying, you scroll through multiple sections of history lessons and anecdotes and then... there's not even an actual recipe?? sometimes, not even a listing of ingredients of any kind. but it's full of product placements :333
