@MURRUMUR there is no "real life" anymore. people are sometimes impressed merely by the fact i read books. truly even the most basic and low effort engagement with the world is becoming a rarity. modern technology has brought out our limitless potential to be really fucking boring

@MURRUMUR part of why I ended up chronically online in the first place was because a lot of "people in real life" can be so shallow >.>

I do think there's a folly in presuming the people you like online are so much cooler and realer than the people around you IRL though. I think assuming that you yourself are so much more complex than everyone else around you, that the things you value are correct and the things others value aren't, is a trap to be avoided at all costs; at best it becomes an excuse to stagnate and to stop growing (youre already number 1, so why try harder?), and at worst an excuse to discard and give up on others without really knowing them
