@vriska @graf @georgia I know you're probably pissed at the "move somewhere" suggestions right now but my offer of a room rent free at my place is still standing if you need it. Splitting bills there's no way you'd be spending more than $400/month (high estimate) counting food and everything, kitchen has a proper gas stove and oven as well, and I got a hospital like 5 blocks away. One hug a day free of charge.
Willing to put down some money for a ticket, graf is willing to contribute too and handle the ticket-acquisition so no one gets pissy about "this is a scam". Your call, won't force you, but consider it depending on how bad things get over there, can't imagine the living costs and job availability will get better for anything that isn't construction/electricity/plumbing/repair in the foreseeable future after the level of destruction I'm guessing from your posts. I'd rather spend some money on transport and food than have you surviving on canned beans and whatever water you can afford with no freelance work for a month or more risking complete collapse if you get sick. You can just go back once the island is in working order again and you aren't horribly in the red if you want.
I know you like Saipan a lot, but here you'd have complete certainty of not just survival but decent living conditions, and will still have hot food and a bed if you can't work for a bit due to the health toll of all of this.

If you have a non salted water sources there are methods of low cost filtering.
At worst you can just boil it 10 minutes with whatever heat source for microbe decontamination (won't filter chemicals or heavy metals but it still better than dying).
For salt water the only system I know is this one and I haven't reproduced it and in such situation it's doubtful you can make it.
