@yew opened mineclone and its better i guess?
still
1. sprites look blurry and you can see the scaling is fucked on the armor outline, not every pixel is the same size
2. there is a fucking gap between item slots, you can straight up click and miss
3

2
@yew @paula8 but the ingame stuff is probably different since we always played on the ebin server?

@yew and my fave bug of placing blocks inside yourself is still here
3

2
@yew jump height is too close to 1 block and theres no jump cooldown when holding space so going up hills feels janky
1
0
2
@paula8@netzsphaere.xyz jumping uphill feels better than in mc. also you can sprint without getting stopped whenever you run into a block. you can sprint uphill and it feels just like sprinting up stairs as it should imo

@twinspin6 @yew if i wanted to play a buggy incomplete janky mc id play bedrock !

i cant actually even pirate bedrock because even for that you need a microsoft acc

@yew @paula8 i see
honestly the issues pointed out so far are pretty inconsequential
2

1
@paula8@netzsphaere.xyz i regular go up hills irl and it’s smooth

2
@yew @paula8 like they don't cause any frustration for me at least

1
@yew @twinspin6 you can enjou it, who cares
im just saying that i opened mc beta 1.8, couldnt place a block inside me and when i forced a sand block to fall on me, the game pushed me out
2

2
@paula8@netzsphaere.xyz @twinspin6@outerheaven.club items never despawn on ebin i doubt minecraft could handle that. certainly not java edition.
1

1
@twinspin6 @yew but like why would you play a copy of mineceaft that barely competes with the beta when you can just play minecraft..
2

1
@paula8 @yew i know for a fact that later java mc versions are trying to kill you with sand and gravel
0
0
1
@twinspin6@outerheaven.club @paula8@netzsphaere.xyz i choked on sand so much even after the release cause it wouldn’t push me out

@paula8 @yew microsoft deleted my account pretty sure
also i don't feel like it is that much inferior
plus well good server of course
2

@yew @twinspin6 you can disable item despawn or increcrease it or whatwver you want in java
also isnt luanti backend filled with laggy linked lists? theres no way it performs better than java

1
@yew @twinspin6 if your head and feet are stuck youll suffocate yeah
is thag a thing in luanti?
0

2
@twinspin6 @yew you dont need a microsoft acc to play java
2

@paula8 @yew i don't? ask the launchers who are literally blocking you until you sign in

@paula8 @yew disable anisotropic filtering if sprites are blurry

2
@twinspin6@outerheaven.club @paula8@netzsphaere.xyz because all the annoying things about playing minecraft that bothered me are solved:
- no jank cooldown combat bullshit
- no jump cooldown
- running uphill feels like running uphill irl, not janky
- sprint doesn’t stop when i run into something
- no mc account, i can say slurs in chat, i can rename myself ingame for different servers without going to some 3rd party website
- the software runs smoothly and can handle any amount of ingame items as i please
- it has a clean modding api. if i want to add a crafting recipe, i add like 10 lines of lua and just relaunch the game

@twinspin6@outerheaven.club @paula8@netzsphaere.xyz luajit is really fast. it’s not just java, it’s mojang code. it was even worse before notch left.
1

2
@yew @twinspin6 @paula8 the cooldown is implemented, just less visible indicator so you're probably dealing almost no damage in melee, but apart from that i agree
1

3
@twinspin6@outerheaven.club @paula8@netzsphaere.xyz but to join servers because they all enable verification no?
1
0
1
@yew @paula8 @twinspin6 ok, crafting receipes are also that easy with resource packs
2
0
2
@paula8 @twinspin6 @yew but anything complex becomes arcane bs or is impossibke with resource packs
0

2
@yew @twinspin6 @paula8 the java code is horrendous, producing ungodly amounts if garbage and overall being pretty inefficient. You shouldn't be able to get it to run so much better with community mods
0
0
2
@yew @twinspin6 literally all of that can be done with java
1
0
0
@paula8 @yew @twinspin6 luanti performs way better than java with any amount of optimization mods and the modding api is better
2

3
@twinspin6 @yew dont use the trans launcher (i mean you can actually but its annoying)
just use https://ultimmc.com/
sklauncher is also popular but ive never tried it
1

2
@paula8 @twinspin6 @yew also, being written in a jit language is great, you can just poke around everywhere and have the full source always available
1

4
@yew @twinspin6 there are hundreds of more minecraft servers without verification than there are luanti servers

@twinspin6 @yew prism
you can enable offline accounts without a microsoft acc if you change the config files

3
@snacks @yew @paula8 @twinspin6 i wont lie i totally see the appeal its why i enjoy lisp and forth as well
2
0
2
@snacks @paula8 @twinspin6 @yew though, forth you can actually store compiled. its just not common practice to do that outside of embedded environments
1
0
2
@coolbean @yew @paula8 @twinspin6 it really lowers the barrier of entry to getting involved with dev yeah
1
0
1
@paula8 @yew i mean i did try doing that with prism and they patched it at some point
2
0
0
@snacks @twinspin6 @yew if the modding api is way better than why only java ha good mods
hmmm
1
0
2
@paula8 @twinspin6 @yew because java probably has over 1000x the playerbase
1
0
2
@snacks @yew @paula8 @twinspin6 and compatibility, its just nice to be able to run the same game with the same mods on almost any os
0

3
@twinspin6 @yew yeah its not worth using prism, they even removed ftb modpacks lol

@snacks @yew @paula8 @twinspin6 maybe i think elisp definitely does. i dont fuck with that though

2
@paula8 @twinspin6 @yew mc has like 20million accounts iirc? If we assume 10% of those are actually active then that puts luanti at 2k active players
1

2
@twinspin6 @yew @paula8 It's a two line patch to create a working offline account in prism launcher.

@phnt @yew @twinspin6 is that a repo with precompiled binaries? thats the biggest pain tbh, microsoft removed pollymc from github
1

@coolbean @yew @paula8 @twinspin6 but yeah. I think anything interpreted or jited massively helps the foss/hacker spirit. Pretty much the opposite of unreasonably complex gnuware

@paula8@netzsphaere.xyz @twinspin6@outerheaven.club until microsoft gets tired of this and adds better drm to minecraft

@phnt @yew @twinspin6 thankies !
its been annoying since pollymc was taken down

@yew @twinspin6 and until then java will be better game than luanti

@phnt @yew @paula8 @twinspin6 and a generational effort to behead those who made it necessary

@paula8 @yew @twinspin6 What luanti is missing is a modding community with the same autism as minecraft technic mods. Literally the only reason why I sometimes play minecraft is because of the large magic/technical modpacks.

@paula8 @twinspin6 @yew The base game has been incredibly boring since at least 1.12.
1

@yew @twinspin6 @paula8 They are a pain in the ass to run, I agree with that. FTB University 1.19 on FreeBSD eats like 8GB of RAM for two players.

@phnt@fluffytail.org @twinspin6@outerheaven.club @paula8@netzsphaere.xyz i like building things in my block game. i don't like it eating all my computer's resources because someone needed 200 modpacks to build the everything machine(tm)

2
@phnt @yew @twinspin6 yesterday i found entire mods being recreated for mc bedrock (not paid marketplace mods, just regular mods)
there was ae2, botania, storage drawers, bunch of machine mods and whatever
https://vatonage.com/?type=addon
you cant possibly tell me people playing luanti of all games dont have the autism to do this

i mean really, lucy is calling me autistic for playing mc when shes playing luanti

@yew @twinspin6 @paula8 Tech mod packs peaked with Tekkit/Technic pack in 1.2.5. Now everything is AE2 with a bunch of addons. IC3 is shit, Thaumcraft stopped being good at v3 and Equivalent exchange stopped being usable with v3.

@snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @twinspin6@outerheaven.club @phnt@fluffytail.org @paula8@netzsphaere.xyz mc is such a great game i need to setup specific mods of a specific 3rd party modapi to make it playable kurominotice

@paula8@netzsphaere.xyz @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @twinspin6@outerheaven.club @phnt@fluffytail.org i can. i join a server and since all mods are server-side i don't need to worry about it.

@yew @twinspin6 @phnt ae2 is a mod for storage, instead of having tens for chests you have a computer with hdds
1

@yew @twinspin6 @paula8 Tekkit is the multiplayer version of technic pack. And AE2 is Applied Energetics 2 which is the most kitchen sink mod ever.

@yew @snacks @twinspin6 @phnt has there even been a virus mod or no one bothered to try that yet?

@paula8 @yew @twinspin6 Hey, at least it has a functional recipe menu instead of that god awful one in minecraft.

@paula8@netzsphaere.xyz @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @twinspin6@outerheaven.club @phnt@fluffytail.org i like the game i enjoy building things in it and you won't change anything about it kuromithanks

@paula8 @yew @twinspin6
>have you even used it? doesnt feel good
No but it at least makes all the recipes visible at least from what I can gather from that screen shot. And it isn't some small 7x4-ish minimenu.

@yew @snacks @twinspin6 @phnt your game is bad and you should feel bad about it
and you know maybe improve the game so i can play it one day

@paula8@netzsphaere.xyz @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @twinspin6@outerheaven.club @phnt@fluffytail.org i like the game and i have lots of fun with it. instead of harassing me about it you why don't you pay me if you want me to put in the effort to add things you want, or at the very least ask nicely? being mean won't motivate me to waste my time for your sake lainsmile

@yew @snacks @twinspin6 @phnt exactly im spending company time to shit talk luanti

@yew @phnt @snacks @twinspin6 also im never in a million years ever touching c++ again

2
@paula8@netzsphaere.xyz @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @twinspin6@outerheaven.club @phnt@fluffytail.org none of the gameplay related code is afaik, it's all lua. the game itself is implemented via the modding api.

@yew @snacks @twinspin6 @phnt but you just told me the lua modding doesnt touch the client?
2

@yew @phnt @snacks @twinspin6 also do they have something for static typing on the lua side?
1

@yew @snacks @twinspin6 @phnt thats if im making a mod myself, if im changing whatever on someone else's code ideally they'd be using that already?

@paula8@netzsphaere.xyz @snacks@netzsphaere.xyz @twinspin6@outerheaven.club @phnt@fluffytail.org imagine you wanna modify something but use fennel or whatever lua-frontend, you'd set it up so that the fennel transpiler runs and generates lua code right?

@snacks @coolbean @yew @paula8 @twinspin6

> jitted
> opposite of 'unreasonably complex'

blobcatlaugh ahaha. oh man.

@yew @snacks @twinspin6 @phnt @paula8 rendering uses a vendored irrlicht and implements all the gameplay primitives. lua glues some things together but its considerably limited in what it can do.

even basic stuff like custom hotkeys for mods can't be done since all keyboard-stuff is controlled by the c++ side.
1
0
0
@yew @snacks @twinspin6 @phnt idk i never actually touched any typed lua
honestly a game like that nowadays should just use v8 and offer javascript and webassembly modding
0
0
0
@icedquinn @phnt @yew @snacks @twinspin6 so a mod cant add a new hotkey with just lua?
2
0
1
@paula8 @phnt @yew @snacks @twinspin6 no. asked about it in the skyblock zero disc.

you get a very limited set of UI widgets to work with and thats it, too. which is why every mod kinda looks bad and has clunky UIs.
0
1
1
@icedquinn @coolbean @yew @paula8 @twinspin6 i worded it badly since you can also create impossible to navigate source in lua, but you don't touch the luajit source when poking around in luanti either

@paula8 @icedquinn @phnt @twinspin6 @yew we had multiple threads of people being confused about how to sprint because of this, yeah

@paula8 @icedquinn @phnt @twinspin6 @yew look in your settings, auxillary1 is the binding for sprint
