@lucy where though? everywhere is taxed. you can't just go into a forest and hermit-mode. you'd be arrested within a week.

@kaia @lucy pretty sure this is legal in Scotland and probably Dartmoor. Also you can kind of just live as an off the grid nomad, nobody is going to stop you

@kaia @lucy Property tax doesn’t exist in Britain so you’re fine here. There’s council tax sure but there’s cases where you don’t have to pay it and if you’re off grid that’s one of them

@arcana @kaia @lucy I mean a lot of this is because britain relies on vat for so much of its tax revenue

nonetheless, british financial system keep winning lol

@kaia @lucy you can also forage on the commons and have right of way over pretty much all of them excluding firing ranges so it is actually possible to do legally and actually not die at the same time

There’s certain places you can actually camp in national parks that aren’t Dartmoor or in Scotland which it’s fully legal due to a blind eye policy above a certain elevation, though I’ve personally seen multiple campers in these places

I actually know of an ancient hut circle in the Yorkshire Dales which you can honestly camp at because probably less than a hundred people even know how to get to that specific area or that it’s physically possible to (I’m one of them 😎)

@arcana @kaia @lucy Isn't that a huge part of why Europeans hate Gypsies?

@scathach @kaia @lucy No, they hate them because they're literal scammy and thieving bastards

@scathach @kaia @lucy I don't think people would mind Travellers as much if they were just doing their own thing and foraging for food rather than stealing caravans and doing bad jobs at tarmacing driveways and then intimidating for payment
