I hate that the gym bros were right about chicken and rice

@eris I've been making Halal food truck style chicken and rice lately and it's so good and so cheap I love it

@scathach How do you do that?

I usually make it with stir fried green cabbage, chili crisp oil, and soy sauce and I am both happy and have lost 7 pounds

@eris @scathach it is, I keep this stuff around and its perfect for it. https://www.getcomfortfoods.com/shop

They aren't screwing around with the heat either, their 4/10 is quite hot, and I like spicy stuff.

@eris @scathach leave out the rice and increase the cabbage and chicken and you'll lose even more weight

@meowski @scathach That would be hard to maintain over the months I plan to stick to this, and I'd likely lose hair from losing weight too fast

@eris @scathach it's easier than you think and no high protein diet won't cause you to lose hair. rice and starchy foods like that are practically devoid of nutrients that support keratin. it probably would improve your hair in fact especially if you start taking supplements like collagen, zinc, selenium, biotin, folic acid, and a good natural mens multi-vitamin with trace minerals and phytosterol

@meowski @scathach You do lose hair by losing weight too fast, it's stressful on the body. It's called telogen effluvium

@eris @meowski @scathach this happened to my sister who went from 170something to like 110 in a rather short span

@eris @scathach if you're on a calorie restricted diet and don't get proper nutrients, then sure i could see that, but eliminating rice and other refined starch isn't going to do that. i assure you

@meowski @scathach Don't give advice if you don't understand things

@eris @scathach
there are specific needed nutrients that support hair growth and losing weight at a reasonable pace, especially if you boost cruciferous veggies and reduce starch, will actually improve your hair because you're getting more vitamins and less empty calories. losing fat is just one benefit of eliminating carbs.

i've been on a variety of diets, including keto, and done 2 separate 6 day fasts, and it didn't cause any hair loss. but maybe your experience will be different. eat whatever you want, but you're misinformed.

@georgia @scathach @eris and what kind of junk did she eat while she was on that diet?

@meowski @scathach @eris she ate pretty healthy as far as I know. she eats a lot of vegetables

@georgia @scathach @eris if her diet is anything like yours, idk sounds dubious. i figure the only way your hair is going to fall out from losing fat is 1, if you're lacking nutrients related to hair growth, and 2, if you have a lot of stored toxins in the fat that are getting released. at any rate, losing the fat and not becoming diabetic, and having fatty liver, etc, is only going to improve hair and skin in the long run

@georgia @scathach @eris there was an animal study i recall that show one 3 day water fast improved hair and skin of mice. i think there's something to this. autophagy gives you an immune system boost and triggers stem cell production

@meowski @scathach @eris a 3 day fast is different from the kind of fasting that makes you quickly lose 60+ pounds. she didnt intermittent fast either.

@meowski @georgia @scathach @eris large hormonal changes can temporarily cause hair loss too

@georgia @scathach @eris the only way to "quickly" lose 60 lbs is with caloric restriction. i don't really advocate crash diets. keto is a sustainable lifestyle change and once you get used to it you can lose weight at a reasonable pace, boost nutrients, and not have to starve, and not have weird side effects like hair loss

@Checked @georgia @scathach @eris poor hormone metabolism can cause permanent hair loss like male pattern baldness as well. being fat does increase estrogen in men and messes up all kinds of stuff including hormones. it's best to deal with this problem with sustainable long term lifestyle changes not crash diets

@meowski @georgia @scathach @eris i just budget my calories and get most of them from protein. On rare days i may get them mostly from fat.

@Checked @georgia @scathach @eris that's decent. definitely not ketogenic but not a huge amount of carbs. for me it would be. i have around 10-15g/day of carbs and no sugar. i did work up to this gradually and had my reasons for doing it
