@georgia it's funny that Käsespätzle is basically german mac and cheese, and somehow despite being german it's actually better than mac and cheese. that's how low im rating mac and cheese smh.

@lucy @georgia I like mac and cheese, but only made from scratch. (Dried macaroni is fine, of course.)

@lucy @georgia mac and cheese is actually peak
make pasta in your favorite shape
make a bechamel and add your favorite cheeses
toast some panko on butter
add panko on top of pasta and bake

@lucy @anemone @georgia that being said, in America there are plenty of stores where you can get specialty imported beer

@genmaicha @anemone @georgia i don't like when beer is too bitter, most local types are kinda sweet (without sugar added, just how they brew it) and somehow still somewhat high alc content

@georgia @anemone @genmaicha indian? not IPA? that's rare

I remember trying Herring at a cafe in Jena. My friend said it was a pretty traditional Thuringia fish/meal ... was .. not that great. Kinda bland yet tolerable. I dated a girl who really liked that raw pork sandwich .. Gehacktes Brotien? Is that right? It was okay. It doesn't really taste like anything though and I hated the raw pork getting stuck in my teeth.

Chicken Schnitzel is nice, but it's pretty much Australian Chicken Parma without the sauce.

Also I wasn't a big "bread for breakfast" person back then and the only bacon I could find was the thin stuff at Aldi or the overpriced/over-salted stuff at the butcher.

oh but I did like those big blocks of cheese you put on the grill. I think it's just a large chunk of Halloumi? I assume that's what it was because I don't know of any other cheese that grills that way.

@georgia @anemone @djsumdog mett is ground-up meat, 50/50 beef and pork usually. it's put on a bun, with diced raw onions, salt and pepper.
the picture is a play on words I'd rather not translate lol.

@djsumdog @anemone @georgia and yes, it's eaten raw, and it's not something rare or obscure either

@unmind @anemone @lucy Hindus can eat meat period but meat is still tamasic and so yogis shouldn't eat it. As an aspiring yogi I have to avoid himsa as much as possible.

@lucy @unmind @anemone @georgia leberwurst on some of the darker german breads is actually great

like, what i usually bake with mixed wheat/rye/spelt flour, linseed and sunflower seeds that’s all fluffy inside but has a nice crust? match made in heaven, i really liked that before i quit meat
