I do like SailfishOS a lot.

But please be aware that the development-team is really small and you do see / feel that fact.
For me it's totaly fine to reboot SFOS every two or three days, sometimes twice a day.

Then there are some (really usefull) apps that are available via AndroidSupport and @fdroidorg (or even PlayStore) only. Of course, this is without Play Services, and of course you can skip that completely, too.
So even on SFOS your Google dependance is anti proportional to your ability to be ignorant about social conventions.

@georgia for me it mostly is Fennec, Conversations (XMPP), Element, LocalSend, OrganicMaps/ CoMaps from @fdroidorg and Signal from their "danger zone".

yes, I think so.
All you need is the AndroidAppSupport. IIRC it's included in the commercial version of SFOS, and on Jolla C2 and the upcoming Jolla phone.

Then you need to install @fdroidorg, and then you go.

For (free of charge) Apps, that are only available on PlayStore, you can use AuroraStore as well. I use it as "anonymous" user, but thats for extreme rare apps only.

I don't know, what device you have / ordered.
You CAN use many devices and flash SFOS yourself.
I did it with several supported Sony Xperia devices. Recently I bought an (preinstalled) Jolla C2.
During that time I've seen a lot of license differences and en-/disabled versions and I'm not 100% sure.

Anyway, I BELIVE, you simply ordered the actual Jolla Phone 2026 and I THINK that it has AndroidApp-Support included.
Here you even can en-/disable "auto start of Android AppSupport on boot" and "allow running microG services".
Anyway: I'm suprised how well many things do work (even very well), but on the other side some minor things don't.
You will see. And yes: I'm still very happy with SFOS.

Yes, I think you are right.
IIRC there's no Android AppSupport for those ports.
I also read something about Waydroid, but it seems thats not as good implemented as Jollas own AppSupport.

So, yes, I guess it's a good starting point to wean yourself from android. ;)

@fdroidorg so i don't mean to be 'that person' but, as far as I can tell this doesn't affect fdroid as much as I initially thought.

for one, this shouldn't apply to FOSS ROMs like Lineage/Graphene/etc.

It's a mechanism purely employed by the Play store, and only on 'Google Certified' ROMs, and even on there you can just enable 'unverified installs' indefinitely, it just takes 24h to enable, and warns you with every install, which is annoying, but not impossible.

@anthropy The issue is that 4 billion people will be disuaded to install F-Droid right away. You run Google-free? Great. You're the 0.000001 percenter. The rest? It appears that 60% of users get scared and can't press 6 buttons on screen to install a game, ask Epic. Now, imagine it does not take 6 seconds to install F-Droid, but 24h, how exactly will you guide your friend to install a cool app from #FDroid when Google asks them if they are being coerced? Will you be with them tomorrow too?
