look i'm sure plenty of women were locked up in asylums and lobotomized. i know it went on but i highly doubt it was ever for "wanting to wear pants" alone. give me a break

@vriska Suit pants are boy clothes and don't look good on women. Other kinds of pants, go crazy.

They used to just call that stone butch. That's not a gender, that just means you don't like other women touching your clit.

@georgia @vriska

women got lobotimized for all types of very silly things, fucking too much, not fucking enough, not wanting to do chores etc.

i don’t think every woman who ever wanted to wear pants was a lesbian either

@cyno @vriska youre right but my point is that women werent lobotomized for merely wanting to wear pants. lobotomies were performed from the 30s to the 60s roughly, women started wearing pants earlier than that. you can just look at media from the 30s, lots of women in pants. this could have been a post about how 60 percent of lobotomies were performed on female "patients" but it wasnt lol.

@georgia

in the post lobotomies are used as an extreme example of the kind of violence perpetrated against women for not conforming to patriarchal gender norms, like wearing pants

i mean shit there are fundamentalist communities in the US today that don’t allow women to wear pants

i don’t know of any specific cases of women being lobotomized specifically for wearing pants, but ‘wearing men’s clothes’ was indeed used as evidence of mental illness in women which could justify involuntary psychiatric treatment

@cyno @georgia it's almost like my original post was a rhetorical simplification constrained by character limits to make a digestible point
