the nature of the mind is pure, clear light awareness. the natural state of the mind is omniscience, but the omniscient mind is obscured (by what?). there are three types of suffering: suffering of suffering (birth old age sickness death separation from what one loves, being around what one hates, not getting what one wants, blazing rage of five skandhas) suffering of change (samsaric pleasure becomes pain), and suffering of karma and disturbing thoughts. the mind is a continuum of mental events, is multi-layered, and has Buddha-nature

@unmind imo only paramahamsas (yogis in constant samadhi) are functionally omniscient, but still Ishvara has Her secrets.

@georgia the full potential of the mind is Buddhahood so Buddhas are omniscient but becoming a Buddha is fulfilling the mind's innate potential

@unmind @georgia Is it also a thing where everything already has Buddha nature?

@Maretove @georgia yes, everything that has mind has buddha-nature. the full potential of all sentient beings is attaining buddhahood and all sentient beings are destined to become buddhas because they have buddha-nature

translation:
We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ this Book with the truth, as a confirmation of previous Scriptures and a supreme authority on them. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their desires over the truth that has come to you. To each of you We have ordained a code of law and a way of life. If Allah had willed, He would have made you one community, but His Will is to test you with what He has given ˹each of˺ you. So compete with one another in doing good. To Allah you will all return, then He will inform you ˹of the truth˺ regarding your differences.

Surah Al-Ma'ida, Ayah 48

Let's compete in doing good deeds.

@technicallydifficult @Maretove @unmind its a shame the nice religious pluralism of the early quran went out the window when Muslims got a little power

It really depends on knowledge and hikma when it comes to tafsir and ijtihad.

So, if someone hasn't read Seerah, understanding the context in which an ayah is revealed and reasoning out its meaning is going to be very mistake prone.

And then, you have hikma and ijtihad, one without the other is going to come to a bad conclusion. These are vital for developing the Quranic Tafsir which informs interpretation of Shari'a into a system of Fiqh.

Apologies, you may need a dictionary here. I would struggle to explain reasoning behind my inclusive and tolerant view without using correct terminology:

hikma = discerning wisdom
ijtihad = reasoning based on pattern
Tafsir = explanation of Scriptures
Seerah = biography or history
Shari'a = Commandments from scripture
Fiqh = specific rules derived from Shari'a by scholars.

we're supposed to compete in good deeds and helping each other. And only allowed to fight in self defense. A lot of the ayahs were revealed explicitly and specifically for a time and place and in relation to specific events.

When an ayah says to do a specific thing in relation to an event that was going on at that time, we have to compare it to the history and find out what made that command necessary or allowable if it isn't obviously a good thing. For example, there is an ayah which says to kill the pagans. It is in a specific situation where for 10 years already, a particular group of pagans had been killing believers for the fact that they were believers, and when someone is bullying you, there is a limit to how long you should tolerate and forgive it. After a while you have to force them to stop. But once that war was over, the ayah didn't allow for continuing or attacking other groups. It was only to fight against the aggressor and fight to win. Daesh took this out of context in an extreme way to justify aggression. And many non-believers take it out of context to justify hurting us. Even though the mandate has been expired already for 1400 years and applied to a specific conflict.
