@georgia@netzsphaere.xyz It's just Monroe Doctrine 101. The anti-Catholicism was arguably warranted for a time because the Vatican was often weaponized to push geopolitical aims counter to Protestant civilizations, also tended to be a hub for organized crime.

We can accept Catholics now because the Vatican usually works for Pax Americana.

Most likely, if there had been something like Anglo-Catholicism back then; Catholic dogma without allegiance to the Papacy, no one would have taken issue with it (beyond baseline classism)

@georgia@netzsphaere.xyz Although a counterpoint to that is, we have minority religions today that represent foreign interests and they haven't been the primary avenue of damage to American Democracy.

Most of Anglo Islam is funded by Saudis and they teach a Salafist brand of Islam, you won't find much historical Sunnism either in the masjid, the schools, or online.

Eastern Orthodoxy was almost certainly promoted by Russia because most of the influencers who promoted it also shilled Russian foreign policy goals and all the Russian talking points used to antagonize the West.

Neither of them have had any real influence. If anything it's the weird "Tradcaths" who don't respect the Pope that are most subject to foreign propaganda, but the dominant Catholic base is pro-America and Center-Left.
