@georgia i love the SGGS! i recommend it, but i am not qualified to say which translations are good with any authority. there are individual translations and then there is the BaniDB collective translation, which is usually what i use.

@georgia i have usually used one of the apps, and am struggling to find this as a PDF. but also, BaniDB principally follows Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa's translation, with occasional revisions for accuracy. if you want a PDF, Sant Singh Khalsa is on archive.org. Sikhs generally say you should not get a physical book because it would be irreverent to not bow every time you approach it, to not prevent it from touching the ground, etc.

@lillian I thought that Sikhs had physical books and put weapons near them? I'll download both the app and the pdf

@georgia while you can own a copy of the SGGS Ji, the protocol for treating it with respect as a Guru is pretty involved www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php/Guru_Granth_Sahib_protocol. since non-Sikhs would find doing this very onerous, it's generally best to just not have the book.
