@yakmacker @fiore the history is quite messy but canaanites were the first real "civilization" in the region and both jews and palestinians have significant canaanite roots. so do jordanians and lebanese (although many lebanese prefer to call themselves phonecians). also the hebrew language is a canaanite language and the jewish religion came out of canaanite religion.

I said jesus was jewish, I would never claim he was Israeli. yet you said that jesus wasnt a foreign conquerer as if I were talking about the modern Israeli nation. the fact that when you hear 'jesus was a jew and a judean" you think "oh no he couldnt have been, because he was from there and was deeply rooted there" is quite sus. like you can say he was from there and was deeply rooted there by calling him a hebrew and an israelite, you dont need to use terms from nations that are modern creations like israel or palestine.

@fiore palestinian historiography often claims that palestinians are descended from all the peoples who have ever lived in palestine and many of those people were conquerers or quasi-genociders of indigenous jews and samaritans. no people of israel/palestine is pristine except the samaritans! but of course, this doesnt excuse the current genocide in Gaza. I just must debunk nationalist inspired myths whenever I see them.

@fiore I know youre well-meaning here but youre ignorant of history of you think that palestinians are 100 percent descended from indigenous people and jews arent. the truth is both are people with partial Canaanite roots influenced by "illegimate" conquests. palestinians have very significant admixture from people who invaded the land, especially muslim colonizers but also christian ones. theres a reason that "al-masri" (the Egyptian) is one of the more popular gazan surnames. meanwhile jews are about half descended from converts on the maternal side. both groups are indigenous to palestine, literally the only difference here is that their conquest was well in the past while the Israelis was more recent. but sure, say israelis "pretend to be from there". they have committed crimes but theyre not foreign to the levant.
