@subnetter @Critias food that deprives fewer beings of their lives is more ethical usually, and veganism is only novel because the problems with the modern milk and egg industry are so novel. but many jains (an ancient religion) are switching to veganism based on the ancient principle of ahimsa because cow milk is obtained far differently than it was in preindustrial times let alone vedic times. I'm not of the cohort who believes every relationship with animals where something is obtained is exploitation, but dairy farming which involves separation from and killing of calves and forced impregnation definitely is.

@Critias @subnetter never heard of the latter but shojin ryori in japan is also vegan (and they do eat mushrooms unlike many indian lacto-vegetarians).

@subnetter @Critias agree for the most part but lacto-vegetarianism has also been practiced for centuries by some south asians, including jains who are incredibly restrictive. theres nothing wrong with taking nonviolence to mean not eating flesh killed for its flesh. "its impossible to consume plants ethically" is not a good argument for not consuming animals unethically. let's make plant consumption more ethical then.

My issue with veganism is that most vegans view consuming meat as a moral failure along with feeling perfectly okay with the exploitation of humans, especially migrant agrilcultural workers.

@subnetter @Saorsa I've found cis passing and androgynous transfemmes cute but I'm just really actively attracted to (cis) femaleness including natural vulvas. its just an attraction that feels more natural and innate for me.
