when the bhagavad gita says the three doors to hell that destroy the self are kama (desire/lust), krodha (anger), and lobha (greed), the meaning is this:
the enemy of the self is attachment to the senses, which create the illusion that one is the body and not the perfect atman.
sensory desire (the strongest of which is lust) is thus the primary enemy. greed is caused by desire because we accumulate wealth to secure access to carnal enjoyment. thus greed is the means by which desire perpetuates itself. anger is only what happens when desires are frustrated, leading to hatred and the destruction of the intellect, or evil and ignorance.
