@pernia @VD15 with lume it was cause he was talking about giving me money or something?? so i was like no u and exercised my largesse courtesy of a newly bequeathed endowment from pimp daddy moon. i always do that when men want to spend money on me. also i just love giving gifts.

@VD15 @pernia is this about the cum as currency post apocalyptic scenario? cause human cum isn't worth very much.

@orekix @VD15 @pernia i'm thinking a frontier kinda barter system, not eugenics.

@VD15 @orekix @pernia (!) this statement has been disputed, click here to learn why

@VD15 @orekix @pernia that's utilitarian though. fast horses win more races. kids of smarter individuals provide less consistent returns on investment with a far longer initial period of loss

@orekix @VD15 @pernia while i don't think there's a sacred right to reproduce, the question is always who decides what's eugenic and what's dysgenic. very slippery slope to say one life is worth more than another.

@VD15 @orekix @pernia it's weird as fuck that it's socially acceptable to jerk off horses for money tbh

@orekix @VD15 @pernia but they're both done with the understanding that some people are more worthy than others, certain people being encouraged is not unlike certain people being discouraged. i think pro-natalism could have the same effect of counteracting the tendency of people to have kids below the the replacement ratio as their living conditions improve.

@moth @orekix @VD15 @pernia okay but consider positive punishment, where positive does mean active. i knew what he meant but it wouldn't be crazy to interpret it that way.

@orekix @VD15 @pernia worthy of what? life? to judge a persons worth is folly not to mention callous. perhaps what you mean is "they will contribute more to society", but intelligence isn't the greatest measure of that. (and also fuck society)

@orekix @VD15 @pernia our society rewards mediocrity fundamentally. breeding good little soldiers/corporate drones. the fact that people who champion eugenics also stifle the human spirit is not lost on me. i mean, they want human genius and creativity to work like a farm or assembly line. it doesn't work like that.

@VD15 @orekix @pernia bro. i like you a lot. i'd trust you with my life. i'd even live with you. I just don't want to have sex with you, i'm sorry. you gotta learn to let that go.

@orekix @VD15 @pernia there will never be such a thing as a meritocracy because power seeks to perpetuate itself regardless of merit. consider families who go to elite colleges. maybe the grandparents were really smart, but the grandkids get in cause they're legacy.

@orekix @VD15 @pernia oh yeah i agree with that. at least traditional eugenics is accessible without expensive scary ass technologies. so it's definitely the lesser of two evils.

@orekix @VD15 @pernia @thestrongest i'm secular.
in the end i don't know what i'm doing. even if i wanted to have kids, i consider paid surrogacy highly unethical so i'd never do that. goals is bimaternal offspring and she hosts it.

@emilis @VD15 @orekix @pernia @thestrongest if it weren't alien there wouldn't need to be a barrier between the fetal and maternal blood

@VD15 @orekix @pernia @thestrongest selling the bodies and risking the lives of women in third world countries wresting their offspring from their arms upon fulfillment of a contract for flesh isn't immoral?

@pernia @VD15 @orekix @thestrongest paid surrogacy is already industrialized

@pernia @VD15 @orekix @thestrongest there's the same power dynamic with women in developed countries. it's poor minorities selling their eggs and wombs at the cost of their health and even life.

@VD15 @orekix @pernia @thestrongest in theory prostitutes could all love their jobs but that's not how it plays out. the people who become paid surrogates are poor and disenfranchised.

@pernia @VD15 @orekix @thestrongest someone with a decent social standing wouldn't do it for money lol. that's called altruistic surrogacy.

@VD15 @orekix @pernia @thestrongest surrogacy is literally paying for a baby. i don't know how else to make that clear. they aren't paid the full amount when they miscarry.

@pernia @VD15 @orekix @thestrongest i explicitly said commercial surrogacy not altruistic surrogacy

@VD15 @orekix @pernia @thestrongest >not against their will.
look you can say the same about people who make ends meet by selling their blood. if they were well off they wouldn't do it. hunger is a pretty strong motivator.

@VD15 @orekix @pernia @thestrongest it's not inconceivable but it's very rare. altruistic surrogates usually know the parents and thus wouldn't be in it for money. of course the parents often pay for basic medical care but that wouldn't be making a profit.

@pernia @VD15 @orekix @thestrongest i mean yeah? that's why i was criticizing paid surrogacy

@chuculate @VD15 @orekix @pernia @thestrongest oh yes i agree. just like in sex work the happy hooker why just likes sex with strangers is rare so is the paid surrogate who just likes being pregnant. UBI would decimate both "trades".

@pernia @VD15 @orekix @thestrongest most surrogacy is paid so it's not really irrelevant akkoshrug

@VD15 @orekix @pernia @thestrongest no one needs babies to live. a good parallel is the creepy startups seeking to use the blood of the young to cure senescence. that's evil.

@VD15 @orekix @pernia @thestrongest because you're trading in human flesh and because surrogates are treated like slaves, with a contract binding them to certain behavior.
but sure lets treat surrogacy like any other job. 40 hour work week?? lolno. paid leave? certainly not. protection against hazardous bodily fluids? nope. etc etc

@jang @orekix @VD15 @toast magic is just stuff science hasn't made mundane. (tosti will object to this)

like octopi can change color and texture, is that magic? we have opposable thumbs, that's lit.

i mean i share a longing for inexicable things to exist in defiance of lame empiricism (ultimately stemming from escapism and worldweariness and possibly thanatophobia) but you gotta see the magic that's already around you

or i could be that guy and say, the fun in magic is that it can't be proven and keeps you wondering, if it were consistent and self evident it wouldn't be magic
magic is defined more by what it isn't than what it is
