@georgia FedEx, UPS, and DHL have reliably demonstrated that privatization is generally just a bad idea. You get equal or worse service for like 30x the price, as a consumer. Granted, USPS is heavily subsidized. Yet, still. It provides a publicly useful service which the free market would otherwise gouge over.

@adiz @georgia it is not "subsidized", its a service, it costs money to provide, it isn't intended to make a profit.

@adiz @georgia USPS was self-funding before Republicans legislatively forced them to run at a loss

@sun@shitposter.world @adiz@mtl.jinxian.casa @georgia@netzsphaere.xyz it's a retarded argument anyway. it's a service, not a business. No one says the police "run at a loss" because that would be an idiotic thing to say

@adiz @georgia I got a package from UPS recently and the absolute extortionists wanted 35$ broker fees for a 50$ item

@coolboymew @adiz UPS is terrible at estimating when your package will arrive as well. its like they just make it up.

@anemone @georgia @sun @adiz i can imagine ways to make the police profitable but i dont think there's quite enough political appetite to make things *that* absolutely unliveable

@georgia FedEx outright won't deliver packages sometimes even if you've paid for it to be delivered by a particular date. I waited all day once for a driver to arrive, front door open, and they marked it as "attempted to deliver, nobody to sign, will reattempt later" or whatever, which was a bold lie. I had to call their primary location and demand the driver actually show up. @coolboymew

@adiz @georgia Too Bad Amazon has swamped them with packages. All the extra work has turned the St Louis sorting center into a black hole. Maybe your stuff goes through in one day. Maybe 2 or 3.
